Community Energy Strategy update

The Community Energy Strategy was published by the Government’s Department for Energy and Climate Change at the start of 2014. It is the first Government strategy to focus directly on community energy and discusses a range of issues relevant to Plymouth Energy Community and PEC Renewables.

The strategy has been recently updated, with the new document outlining progress to date and next steps. Much of the emphasis is around how the Government can embed policies and mechanisms which support community energy initiatives across the board. It also includes information about funding and tax relief to help community generation projects and more about shared ownership of energy infrastructure.

We would like to see more emphasis on fuel poverty and energy efficiency, although this is addressed directly in the Fuel Poverty Strategy.
