Did you know that 34% of people worry about whether they can afford their next energy bill? join us and help Plymouth residents regain control.

Plymouth Energy Community is leading an exciting programme to change the way we use and source our energy. If you know someone that worries about energy bills, keeps the house a little too cold than is comfortable or struggles with damp or condensation, then you can help. Whatever time you have to give, we will work together to make a difference to the people that matter to you.

Regular volunteering – Energy Team

If you have a few hours to give each week, regular volunteers are now being trained to help Plymouth residents take control of their energy use. Draughts, damp, tricky thermostats and incomprehensible bills are issues in many homes that contribute to growing energy costs and a less comfortable environment. Our training course for Energy Team volunteers helps you to spot and try out solutions to these problems, then pass on your tips to others.

  • Gain knowledge of energy use in the home in a two day accredited course that helps identify and address common household issues
  • Pass on and use your skills in the community – help plan events, encourage partnerships, help colleagues with some lunchtime training

Occasional volunteering – Be a PEC advocate

Sometimes the smallest thing makes the biggest difference. As an advocate of PEC, you’ll help people find the services they need to stop worrying about fuel bills and help warm up a cold damp home. For some of the people we’ve helped, it’s already been life-changing.

You could:
  • Introduce a friend, neighbour or family member to our services
  • Write for the website
  • Hold a fun ‘coffee warming’ event
  • Distribute leaflets in your local area
  • Take photos of our work
  • Offer another skill that you think will help us achieve our aims

If this sounds like something you’d like to do, please register your interest by calling us on 01752 477117 or emailing volunteer@plymouthenergycommunity.com

Workplace volunteering – Energy Champions

We are working with local employers to develop Energy Champions in the workplace. These will be volunteers given time out of their working month to attend and deliver energy workshops for colleagues.

  • Paid time to develop your skills
  • Free training on energy and energy saving
  • New skills in presentation

If you think your employer might be interested, call us on 01752 477117 or email volunteer@plymouthenergycommunity.com

Award-winning volunteers

In 2014, Barbara Hampson, one of PEC’s founding Directors and active volunteer, was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award at the UK Community Energy Awards. This was fantastic recognition for a fantastic member of our community!

In 2015, Olivia Wells, one of PEC’s student volunteers from the University of Plymouth won the Plymouth Volunteer of the Year Award. Olivia’s contribution to PEC has been amazing and she is even focusing on PEC for her undergraduate degree dissertation.

Previous volunteering programmes with PEC

In 2013, we successfully bid for funding to train three Energy Champions, find out more about the project here.
