As part of Plymouth’s Social Enterprise Festival, we invite you to ‘Powering Change’, showcasing how communities can help power the change urgently needed to tackle some of the most pressing social and environmental challenges of our time.

12- 5:30pm, ‘Community Energy: the next generation

Hosted by Western Power Distribution and Regen, a session celebrating the achievements, benefits and learnings of the community energy sector whilst looking ahead to a future of innovation and collaboration. Aimed at practitioners, stakeholders and anyone with an interest in cutting edge energy innovation, it will explore the role community energy groups can play in the transition to electric vehicles, smart grid innovation, community housing, micro grids and regional collaboration to tackle fuel poverty. Lunch is included. Booking essential.

5:30-6pm Plymouth Energy Community AGM, 6 – 6:30pm PEC Renewables AGM

Members of both organisations will come together to receive the annual reports, elect Directors and vote on member decisions. Other attendees of the day will have the opportunity to refresh and get ready for the unique evening ahead.

6:30 – 9pm Prepare to be inspired with an evening exploring the art of the possible!

Hear PEC’s CEO Alistair Macpherson talk about the work of the Energy Team; changing lives in Plymouth. Be enthralled as the Sustainable Earth Institute’s Professor Iain Stewart explains how to overcome the challenge of communicating colossal global problems whilst encouraging grassroots action. Dr Poorna Gunasekera shows how every individual has the capacity to change the world and make it a better place, introducing the Megareach Global Volunteering Network and his experience as a PEC Pal. Matt Winning, comedian and environmental economist, will have us in stitches as he combines comedy and science in an attempt to save the planet.

And finally, a truly inspirational leader of social change, Baron John Bird MBE, founder of The Big Issue, will share how to dismantle poverty by creating opportunity and motivate us all to empower our community to make change happen.
